Anna Karenina...Again

God had given them the day and the strength, and both the day and the strength had been devoted to labor which had brought its own reward. For whom they had labored and what the fruits of their labor would be was an extraneous and unimportant affair.

Is is really unimportant for whom we labor? I do feel work is, in some ways, its own reward, but in the long run, our labor can mean something or nothing at all, depending upon whom it benefits.

Can you please tell me/us where the statue in the right column is, or where the photo came from? It is the most beautiful statue I've seen in a very long time.
